Hasselblad presented 40 megapixel H4D-40

40 megapixel Hasselblad H4D-40 camera
The new True Focus feature is a further refinement of Hasselblad’s segment leading Auto Focus system that makes accurate near field composing substantially easier for photographic professionals. Hasselblad is targeting the H4D-40, which features a 33×44 mm CCD sensor with 40 million pixels and provides almost twice the capture area of the largest 35mm DSLR sensors, towards high-end 35mm professionals. “Most high-end photographers understand the advantages that a Medium Format system has over smaller formats,” explains Hasselblad CEO Larry Hansen, “but many younger photographers have never been exposed to larger format photography. Most everyone in the photographic world is aware, for example, of the dramatic developments that have taken place in the 35mm in recent years,” he continues, “but there many of the younger generation of shooters are not aware of the fact that Medium Format DSLRs have evolved equally dramatically, maintaining - and even in some cases increasing - the quality gap that has historically existed between small format and larger format systems.”

Hasselblad H4D-40 features new True Focus AF system
"The fact that our large sensors have millions of pixels more than 35mm sensors is known, for instance,” Hansen continues, “but the superior image quality that results, in terms of color, detail, and clarity, is not as well known. Likewise, many photographers are not aware of the fact that the larger format of the H System cameras provides a considerably shallower depth of field range, making it much easier to utilize selective focus to creative effect. When combined with True Focus, this opens enormous creative possibilities and technical accuracy. Add to this the modularity of the Hasselblad H4D-40 with its choice of bright image viewfinders and an extensive accessories program, and you get a feature set that makes a Hasselblad system, today, more than ever, a crucial component of any professional photographic toolbox.”

Hasselblad H4D-40 low noise filters
Features such as new low noise color filters of the Hasselblad H4D-40’s sensor and the high performance HC/HCD lens line, provide the basis for increased clarity and increased depth of field. The Hasselblad Natural Color Solution (HNCS) achieves consistent color reproduction using a single color profile, and digital lens correction (DAC), perfects each image captured through the HC/HCD lenses, by removing any trace of distortion, vignetting, or chromatic aberrations. The Hasselblad H4D also comes bundled with Hasselblad’s new Phocus 2.0 imaging software, featuring a dramatically reduced learning curve, enabling the average photographer to be up to speed in less than 30 minutes, and a feature set that matches the industry standards defined by Adobe and Apple.

Hasselblad H4D-40 medium format camera
“We are thrilled to be able to announce the introduction of the Hasselblad H4D-40,” continues Hansen, “and look forward to welcoming a new generation of 35mm photographers as they step up to a higher level of image quality and begin to explore the creative possibilities provided by a Hasselblad system. With the H4D-40, photographers get a camera that is as easy to use - or even easier - than a high-end 35mm DSLR, but that comes with the famed Hasselblad image quality - larger lenses and sensors, more advanced optics, increased resolution and clarity, and all the other benefits of Hasselblad’s Medium Format DSLRs.

Time for 35mm photographers to try the Hasselblad H4D themselves
"For over half a century," Hansen concludes, "Hasselblad cameras have been the choice of the most discerning professionals and the reason for that loyalty has not changed - at Hasselblad, image quality always comes first. We will continue to pursue image quality perfection and will continue to provide the ultimate imaging tools for any application where image quality is important. And in the upcoming months we will do our best to see that as many 35mm photographers as possible get the opportunity to try these amazing products for themselves."

Nikon MX tiny picture

I have one small picture of what I believe could be the next Nikon MX camera.

Here it is - the first one on the left (for comparison purposes I added pictures of Nikon D3 prototype, real Nikon D3, D700 and Nikon F6 to the right):

The size of the prism and the mount on that "thing" appears to be way bigger than the other full frame Nikon models. I am working on getting a high resolution picture which will hopefully reveal more details.

Here is full picture of the Nikon D3 prototype - you can clearly see the difference in the prism size:

Disclaimer: this could be an old Nikon prototype or may not be related at all to Nikon MX. It could be Nikon D4, Nikon D800, Nikon F7, it could be an UFO, the next Canon with a Nikon label, whatever. I don't know for sure. I can only assure you that it's not fake. The source is very reliable. That's all I got for now.

Nikon DSLR prototype with HUGE LCD spotted on a conference in Europe (updated)

He also updated his blog.

Huge LCD! I say 3.5 - 4 inches. Way bigger than the D90.

Here is the link: http://bertstephani.com/blog/?p=96

What is that?

Nikon MX

The other problem I have is the red triangle on the handle of the first ad – the triangle looks different than any of the existing models (personal opinion, I could be wrong). The sequence here is MX, D3, D2HS, D700, D300, D200, D90, D80, D70 and F6. Did I miss a model?

Here is the lens from ad #3 done in PS by one of the readers:

Looks pretty damn close.

Here is another detailed compassion of the DX-FX-MX sensors from ad #4 done by another reader:

The next one is a PS job sent to me anonymously. The text on this one means "Old fox" - a crafty or clever person.

Thank you all for you your comments and analysis. Remember that I am in the same boat as you - I just want to know and I don't know anything more than you do.

If you did not get enough, here is another one of the many emails I got on this topic:

If you measure the size of the wheel on the D3 image (on my screen) you get 9mm wide if you measure the size of the mirror you get 15.5 mm wide 15.5/9=1.722 size factor

You can do the same measurement with the d700 image (once again on my screen) and you get 22/13 1.69.....from these two measurements we can assume the size factor of the wheel to the mirror on these two cameras is  about 1.7 and can be used as a good measure for all Nikon cameras.

since we know that the real size of a Nikon mirror is 36mm wide we can get a real life size factor from the photos also..........36/15.5=2.322 for the D3

.........36/22=1.636 for the d700

we can now use these measurement to find the actual wheel size.....2.322*13=20.898 for the d3 and 1.636*13=21.268......from this we can assume that the size of the wheel on all cameras is roughly 21mm wide

If we measure the size of the mirror from the big ad we see it is about 23mmx14mm on my screen and the size of the wheel is about 10mm.  If we then use the wheel (21mm wide) as a standard.  21/10=2.1 size factor.  We can then use this size factor to determine the real life size of the sensor.  23*2.1=48.3mm and 14*2.1=29.4mm.

Now take it with a grain of salt but from my calculation looking at the photos the sensor of the camera in the big ad would be roughly 48x30
